Copenhagen
August 17 - 20, 2026
![]() Had fun cheering for random people playing kayak polo. | ![]() It's higher (and colder) than it looks, but I had to jump in so I wouldn't wus out. | ![]() no idea what this fever dream is about. |
|---|---|---|
![]() sometimes you just stumble into a random sculpture garden | ![]() Fællesspisning is the Danish term for communal dining. And the family-style meal at Folkhuset Absalon was a highlight of my time in Copenhagen. | ![]() Loved sharing a meal with some fellow travelers at Folkhuset Absalon. |
![]() This family-style meal was delicious (and affordable)! | ![]() After dinner, I went to The Library for a cocktail with one of the women I met at Folkhuset Absalon. Drinks were meh, but the space was gorgeous. | ![]() There's lots of debate over the best bakeries in Copenhagen. My Airbnb host recommended Anderson Bakery, a Japanese-influenced bakery. My caramel miso croissant was delicious. |
![]() The atrium inside Copenhagen City Hall. | ![]() Saw lots of couples getting married at Town Hall (both here and in Oslo). The gift shop even rents bouquets and sells champagne. | ![]() Walking tour from town hall to the palace, and everywhere in between. |
![]() Horsey school at an old palace. | ![]() Nyhavn was the port and, therefore, the red light district back in the day. But then the building owners painted the houses different colors to make the street more appealing. It worked. | ![]() Inside Frederiks Church |
![]() DØP is the quintessential pølsevogn (hot dog stand). I got a cheese sausage with all the fixins -- Danish remoulade (a yellow, mayo-based relish sauce), ketchup, mustard, crunchy raw onions, crispy fried onions, and sweet pickled cucumber slices (hold the ketchup). | ![]() Not only do people like to argue over the best bakeries, but they also love to debate the best fast-food burgers. I tried the mini cheeseburger at Jagger. Good, but not life-changing. | ![]() This sign made me giggle. |
![]() The view from Christiansborg Palace Tower (aka Tårnet). | ![]() On the way to the tower at Christiansborg Palace, you go through this weird attic room with statues and projected pigeons. | ![]() I love that they decided that this weird attic room needed projected pigeons. |
![]() Netto-Bådene offers really affordable boat tours. | ![]() As close as I bothered to get to the Little Mermaid statue which is notoriously crowded and, well, little. | ![]() Splurged on a tasting menu at Høst (translates to "harvest") a popular New Nordic restaurant. |
![]() Dessert at Høst | ![]() Broke my phone so I spent a morning in the Amager neighborhood. I went thrifting and got some super cheap smørrebrød -- sliced meatball, fried fish, and "the vertrenarian's leffovers" (roast beef, liver pâté, and aspic). | ![]() Just a pretty house. |
![]() Nyboder (historic row houses built as Naval barracks) has me wondering if I should have painted my house yellow. | ![]() Love these colors. | ![]() Designmuseum Danmark is small, but it packs a punch. |
![]() Loved the mix of the physical object, projections, Danish audio, and English kinetic typography in this exhibit. | ![]() Unsurprisingly, the Designmuseum Danmark has good design. | ![]() Needed to see at least one windmill on this trip. Found this one at a fortress (kastellet) by the design museum. |
![]() Not sure what this is about, but I do appreciate some public art. | ![]() Stumbled upon Hans Christian Andersen's grave at Assistens Cemetery. | ![]() You know, just some totally normal funereal art. |
![]() Kathya said she has the best sourdough of her life at Mirabelle. So of course, I had to try it, even though I was on my way to a tasting menu. | ![]() Shout out to Emily for telling me about Gro Spiseri. It was even worth getting over my fear of spiral staircases. | ![]() Gro Spiseri is in the greenhouse of ØsterGro, a rooftop urban farm. |
![]() Still trying to decide if this view of ØsterGro was worth going up even more spiral stairs for. | ![]() The tasting menu at Gro Spiseri is served at a long communal table in the rooftop greenhouse. | ![]() The biggest surprise was that most of the ingredients in our dinner are not from the farm (it has a CSA and isn't big enough to support the CSA and a restaurant). The menu is pescatarian and super yummy, especially the sauces. |
