Stockholm

August 8 - 11, 2026
First Fika!

Fika is a Swedish tradition of taking a mindful break to enjoy coffee, a sweet treat (like this kanelbulle aka cinnamon bun), and conversation with others. dedicated pause to slow down, recharge, and connect.

Monteliusvägen

The views from Monteliusvägen (a scenic cliffside walkway located in on Södermalm) were a great way to see Gamla Stan.

Gamla Stan

On my first day, I took a walking tour of Gamla Stan, the original city center of Stockholm.

Gamla Stan

Stockholm is built on 14 islands, but the surrounding Stockholm Archipelago contains over 30,000 islands!

Floating Sauna

Started my Sunday, with a stint at the floating sauna, alternating between sitting in the woodfire sauna and jumping in the freezing water.

Stora Henriksvik

For my second fika, I had princess cake (not a fan) at Stora Henriksvik, a garden cafe on the island Långholmen. After, I took a nap on the nearby beach.

Södermalm

Exploring some of the old streets in Södermalm,

Oldest Bookstore

I stumbled into this super old bookstore. I got a few postcards and some origami paper to write letters.

Swedish Meatballs!

Swedish meatballs (köttbullar) are a thing. I tried the combo -- moose, wild boar, and reindeer. Cleaned my plate. Wild boar was my fave.

Sofia Church

Loved the old homes surrounding Sofia Church.

Subway Art

Many of the subway stations have cool art.

Östra Varvsgatan and Breda

Loved checking out the historic streets of Östra Varvsgatan and Breda.

DSCF0056

I when I heard about hte wooden streets of Östra Varvsgatan and Breda Gatan, I expected to find streets made of wood. Instead, they're streets of a well-preserved cluster of 19th-century wooden houses.

Vasa Musem

The Vasa Museum was more interesting than I expected. This 17th-century ship sank on her maiden voyage in 1628, before she even got out to the sea.

Rosendals trädgård

Stopped by Rosendals trädgård, for a farm-to-table lunch in the garden.

Lunch

Lunch from the farm-to-table restaurant at Rosendals Trädgård.

Östermalms Saluhall

Didn't end up getting anything at Östermalms Saluhall (very pricey), but it was beautiful and I did have a few samples!

Fish Soup

The fiskesuppe (fish soup) at Kajsas Fisk inside the Hötorgshallen food hall was so worth they hype!

Candy and Cocktails

On my last night in Stockholm, I treated myself to a drink at Roda Huset and paired it with some Swedish gummies.

Svedjan bageri

Shout out to my airbnb host for telling me about Svedjan bageri, her neighborhood bakery.

sandwiches

Had to grab one of these sandwiches on homemade sourdough from Svedjan Bageri for my train ride to Karlskoga.

outdoor steating

Most cafes, restaurants, and bars had cute outdoor seating like this. When I went in to get a napkin, the woman at the table next to me warned, "the birds are coming!"

cardamon bun

The cardamom bun from Svedjan bageri was probably the best thing I ate on the whole trip.
